Lord have mercy... there is A LOT of road construction going on right now. As excited as we are for improvements, we know this is all difficult to navigate and frustrating to deal with, especially as time goes on. There's no way to sugar coat it. It's hard.
Although we do not have an official update from TX DOT on their project, it appears to be moving along rather quickly, and we have already seen their new sidewalks being put to good use. This is a great thing! Today
(Monday the 13th) they are working near the Megert Shopping Parking Lot. Please be courteous when parking, and make sure you're not blocking access to the businesses located in that area, specifically Rosa's Taqueria, Borger Pharmacy, and Lee's Donuts. As the traffic pattern switches on 10th Street later today, you should be able to access these businesses MUCH easier.
Which brings us to the 10th Street Project Update: Progress you can actually see is starting to happen! Sidewalks, as well as curb and gutter, have been poured. The roadway has been built up, with asphalt being laid on the roadway and Megert Parking Lot.
North side of the roadway is now open. This means that crews are actively working to switch the traffic pattern to shut down the southbound lanes, allowing construction on that side to begin.
Things to note for this side of the project:
•All utilities are already re-located. This is what took so long on the Northside of the roadway. So, we don't have to wait around for this to happen.
•Parking will mostly be accessible through the side streets. Access these side streets by turning onto 9th Street.
•Crews will demo the existing roadway, work on curb and gutter, install conduit for new lighting, cement treat new subgrade, construct new driveways for businesses, finish sidewalks, and apply new tack coat. We've attached a "task list" to essentially see the work schedule, if anyone is interested.
Things to be conscious of:
•These construction projects are paving the way for better infrastructure, safer streets, and an enhanced community.
•This is extremely hard on our 10th street businesses, and very frustrating to deal with month after month. Please continue to make a conscious effort to visit each one of these businesses. Many offer delivery services and online shopping/ordering.
•We'll be starting another round of our 10th Street Support Raffle, next Friday the 24th. So, save those receipts! Drop them off at City Hall or text them to 806-395-1121 and include your name.
